Success at GFFE Trivia Bee

Updated: Nov 6, 2022

There was lots to see and do at Baldwin Middle School on Friday, November 4!

The excitement began with demonstrations of Baldwin's Full Steam Ahead with Lisa Ricci-Boyle and Courtney Summa-Barbour, elementary Makerspace materials with Cheryl Monaco, and Adams' Micro:bits with Julia Burch. Back to the Basement, a jazz ensemble of GHS students, kept the beat moving as families got food, found a festive table and prepared for Kahoot! trivia.

Adams' Principal Dr. Garan Mullin and Assistant Principal Mr. Jim Pappa emceed the evening and prepared the crowd. Chair NiCole Schlagheck shared a few notes about GFFE, thanked the many volunteers and invited all to start five exciting rounds of diverse topic trivia. All ages remained entertained not only by new facts but also by interludes from GHS Voices, fresh popcorn donated by Page Hardware and lots of wonderful prizes donated by many generous local businesses.

More than 30 families participated and 12 Star Awards were donated to amazing teachers. There were many young winners, engaged parents and lots of concessions to keep busy minds well fed. Grand Honey Bee prize winners were lucky enough to win amazing Grizzlies Gear (thanks to Leete PTO), a $50 Gift Card to 21 Rocks (thanks to the Farrah Family), a $50 Big Y Gift Card (thanks to Big Y) and a pressure cooker (thanks to Page Hardware) and the mystery prize $100 to Prime on Whitfield (thanks to Todd Taylor). Thanks also to Derpy Doggy for donating pads and pens for all participants and our event sponsors BWP Personal Injury Attorneys, Matthew Fisel, ND, Page Hardware, LD General Contractors LLC and Reitman Personnel. A special thank you to our annual sponsors, Palumbo's, GSB and Guilford Foundation, Teape Training, Dobie + Rollins Orthodontics, Carmax, Guilford Courier and Docuprintnow. Proceeds earned at this event will enable GFFE to continue making creative grants possible for our innovative educators and students.

GFFE will continue to recognize outstanding teachers so be on the lookout to purchase Star Awards in December. As well, the next exciting activity for Guilford Youth will be Bee Ball taking place in early March. Thank you for supporting Guilford Youth and GFFE.
