Education Under the Big Top at Melissa Jones Elementary School

Updated: Aug 3, 2020

May 25 saw another first for Guilford schools thanks to a grant from the GFFE.

Derek Delucia was awarded a grant to bring the National Circus Project to the Melissa Jones School for a five day educational residency where trained staff worked with Mr. Delucia to integrate circus skills such as plate spinning, walking on stilts, juggling, etc. to all grade levels and to every student. At the end of the week-long program, a select group of students performed a circus show for the entire school community including over a hundred parents.  This program was a great opportunity for students to further develop and enhance their fine and gross motor skills using unconventional practices and to help students understand the effort of physical fitness and resiliency.
