1000 Hours Outside is a grant that GFFE is happy to award to the Guilford Center for Children. Through all of the challenges that COVID has brought to the world, a silver lining has been connections with families and people’s increased engagement with nature. This grant seeks to promote outdoor learning. This grant will supply backpacks to both the GCC Community as well as all of Guilford by creating an opportunity for residents to borrow the backpacks from the Guilford Free Library.
Explorer Backpacks will have five themes and will promote investigation as well as quality time spent with family and in nature. As John Muir said: “In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.” Backpack themes include:
Outdoor Explorer: Insects
Outdoor Explorer: Stream and Pond
Outdoor Explorer: Birding
Outdoor Explorer: Night Sky
Outdoor Explorer: Take a Hike
We hope these backpacks and fun contents will inspire all to get outside and learn and enjoy the beauty of nature around them!
