Main Section

This section is to be completed in narrative or paragraph form. Its purpose is to help us better understand your project.

  1. Describe the professional development activity: In narrative form write a brief description of the proposed activity.
    • Explain the purpose of the activity. What is it that you would like to learn?
    • Describe the project's activities. What will this experience look like? If you will be attending a conference, seminar, workshop, institute, etc. describe what you will be doing and learning. If you are designing an independent study, detail what you plan to be doing.
  2. Describe the benefits of the proposed activity: How will engaging in this professional development experience enhance your teaching? How will it benefit your students?
  3. Incorporating New Learning: Explain how you plan to incorporate your new learning into your teaching. How do you think your teaching will change? How will the learning experience for your students change as a result of this professional development activity? How will you share your new learning with your colleagues?
  4. Timeline: Include a brief outline of the project's timeline. What will be done by when? Dates can be approximate.
  5. Assessment: Reflecting on the purpose of the professional development activity and what you hoped to learn, discuss how you will know if the activity was worthwhile. What is it that you want to learn and how will you demonstrate that you have learned it?
  6. Budget: Provide an itemized list of the expenses you anticipate for the project. List each item on one line and the associated cost next to it. View a sample budget.
    • Items could include such things as workshop registration fees, books, kits, tapes, etc. Low cost items such as pencils, paper, and crayons may be grouped together with some detail along with their associated cost. (Example: general writing supplies (paper, pencils, crayons, etc).......$24.00
    • Activities, events, or purchases completed before grant approval are not eligible for funding.
    • The GFFE will consider funding equipment, housing, food, or transportation that is integral to a proposed professional development activity. The decision will be based in part on the extent to which these expenses are necessary to achieve the outcomes outlined in the application and on their proportion to the overall budget. The justification for the request should be detailed in the comments section of the budget.
    • Use the Comments section to provide a rationale for any items in the budget that might require further explanation.
  7. Other: If the project will receive funding or contributions from sources (excluding your own personal contributions) in addition to GFFE, identify the sources, the amount of money and/or the contribution.
  8. Personal Investment: GFFE believes that individuals should have a personal investment in their own professional development. Therefore, grants will be judged in part by the applicant's demonstration of personal commitment. This commitment might be in the form of a contribution of personal funds toward expenses and/or a non-monetary contribution such as donation of personal time, travel expenses, books, materials, etc. List your personal contributions in this area of the budget.

In addition to implementing the proposed project effectively, all grant recipients are required to:
