The Guilford Fund for Education has launched its summer extravaganza, a combined geocaching and letterboxing event: Discover the Treasures of Guilford.
For the high tech folks who want to learn a new hobby, geocaching is modern day treasure hunting. For those who enjoy more traditional activities, letterboxing is our parallel game. This is an amazing opportunity to learn about the wonderful town of Guilford. The adventure takes you to scenic trails, historic homes, and unique shops and businesses that help make our town unique.
There are 21 geocaches and 12 letterboxes hidden throughout the town. Each "hide" was carefully selected because the GFFE considered that location to be an "undiscovered treasure" of Guilford. The game runs from June 6 to August 30th, so you have all summer to play at a leisurely pace. The Discover Guide is filled with historical and factual information about the places you will visit. There is no pressure to find all the treasures. Everyone is a winner, just by participating and exploring our town.
Approximately 50 families attended our kick-off presentation on June 6th, 2009, and purchased the Discover Guide already. If you were unable to attend, don't worry, you still have plenty of time to get registered and join the game. To get a copy of the Discover Guide, visit one of the following merchants.
